Lidl, Coatbridge

THE WORKS:

The contract was for the formation of a new entrance to the Lidl supermarket car park onto the main A725 trunk road into Coatbridge at the busy A725 Whifflet Street/Dundyvan Road mini roundabout.

The works involved the reconstruction of an existing mini roundabout into a larger roundabout, the realignment of existing kerb lines, new drainage system, new road surfacing and markings, new safety barriers and fencing, new street lighting and a new pedestrian crossing.  The works were complicated by North Lanarkshire Council's commitments to other contracts in the area which resulted in complex programming with the Council's roads department and the local traffic Police to ensure provision of an entranceway for the supermarket opening day.  Phase 1 duration lasted 3 weeks in August 2008 with Phase 2 starting in January 2009 for a duration of 7 weeks.
