Station Road Bridge, Dalmeny

Station Road Bridge, Dalmeny

THE WORKS:

The project consisted of excavation for the installation of bored cast in-situ piled foundations for new abutments and wingwalls, followed by careful demolition of the existing extensions to the bridge deck. A new self-supporting flat-arched extension was constructed in reinforced concrete to one side of the bridge, with new wingwalls.  After completion of the road and footpath works above, which allowed the traffic to be temporarily realigned, this construction process was repeated on the other side of the bridge, before the carriageway, footpath and parapets were completed and the road reopened to two-way traffic. This phased construction also necessitated some temporary and permanent diversion of utilities. The construction process, and in particular the piling, was subject to very close monitoring of vibration.
